In
1998 my sister Carloyn died of complications secondary to
obesity. God teaches us that out of the darkness will come
light. He was true to His word during this time also.
As I watched her go thru her illness; I looked at myself and
realized I could be next. At over 400lbs I was already experiencing
some harmful health issues directly related to my weight.
I knew I had to do something. Diets had not worked and I was
too big to "get out and excercise."
I
began to research having astric bypass surgery. After a long
search I found Dr. Neil Hutcher in Richmond, Va. On October
1, 2001 I went to Richmond for the surgery. My weight that
day was 435lbs.The surgery was a difficult decision but I
have never regretted it. I started working out at Danville
Athletic Club about 1 month later. I started slowly, mostly
walking, but now I work out 1-1 1/2 hr at least 4 days a week.
This promotes well-being in my body, mind and spirit. Today,
at 180lbs lighter, I feel better and I'm more active than
I have ever been. |
