Well I know it’s been a while since I wrote anything,
but I go through spells where I just feel kind of numb. I
seem to be coming out of it now, so I thought I would catch
everybody up. My CD, Monomusical continues to do well, and
is now available at CD Baby, if you want a hard copy, or it’s
on I-Tunes if you just want to download a song or two, or
the whole thing to your computer. I just sent one to Belgium,
so I know somebody out there must be listening.
We (58West) are doing 5 tunes from my CD in our sets, and
all of the 58West material. Some gigs are not well suited
to doing all of them, but we work them in when we can. I have
written 3 new songs in the last 3 weeks, and one of them has
already been recorded and mixed. I plan to release a new CD
in the early spring. I am open to suggestions for the title.
E-mail me with your thoughts. I also have a new MY-Space page,
which I am slowly learning how to use. Look me up sometime
if you can.
I bought a cool tenor saxophone, and a nice trumpet, and I
plan to play some real horns on my next project. I played
sax in the Soulmasters, at least 30 years ago, so I know it
will just come right back to me (HaHa). I don’t have
very much experience with the trumpet, but I’m just
crazy enough to give it a try. If it sounds like crap, I just
won’t use it. I am known for my musical objectivity.
I can always sellem on E-Bay if it doesn’t work out.
58West is doing great. Carolina Blue is on the charts at Myrtle
Beach, and continues to get lots of air-play. Our new single,
Get My Fannie Back To The Beach, is just out but already getting
attention. We are playing more and more all the time and growing
to meet the increasing demands of our circuit.
I continue to weep for our world. I saw on the news the other
day that some people in America pay thousand of dollars to
get therapy for separation anxiety for their dog. Yet there
are people living in deplorable conditions, and going to bed
hungry every night all over the world. I know that Jesus said
that the poor will be with us always, but can we take that
as license to look the other way. He also said that whatever
we do for the “least of these”, we do for Him.
I somehow don’t believe he meant somebody’s poodle
when he said that. And most churches today are more concerned
with maintaining their shrubs and parking lots than comforting
the poor and downtrodden. There are lots of exceptions of
course, but based on my experiences, in staff and board meetings
I sadly have found this to be true.
We truly give out of love when we expect nothing in return.
I plan to start finding ways to make, even a little tiny bit
of difference in the world. I urge you to do the same. Show
love for someone, maybe a random act of kindness, just make
sure what you do really makes a difference, no matter how
small it may seem. The love you share will come back to you.
Pray
For Peace
Rickie
